Giles Junior School

Excellence in Leadership

Curriculum Overview

At Giles Junior, our curriculum is designed to build strong foundations in literacy, numeracy and wider knowledge, while supporting each child’s confidence and curiosity. We plan learning so that skills are taught progressively, revisited regularly and applied in meaningful contexts across the year.

In English, pupils develop reading fluency and comprehension, alongside writing skills that span a range of genres and purposes. In mathematics, children learn to reason, solve problems and strengthen their understanding of number, calculation and mathematical concepts through structured lessons and practical, real-world applications.

Alongside core subjects, we provide a broad and balanced curriculum that includes science, computing, history, geography, art and design, music, and physical education. Our approach supports personal development, respectful relationships and an inclusive learning environment, ensuring pupils are prepared for the next stage of their education.

The Long Term Plans are below for each year group.

More details on specific subjects can be found on the curriculum pages.
