Results and Performance
Giles Junior is pleased to share our latest Results and Performance information for parents of primary-aged children. Our focus is on steady progress, strong classroom teaching, and building confidence in reading, writing, and mathematics. We aim to ensure every child makes meaningful gains while developing positive attitudes towards learning.
Across the school, we use a range of assessments to monitor progress and identify where additional support or challenge is needed. Teachers work closely with pupils to address gaps, reinforce key skills, and extend learning for those who are ready. Our approach supports consistency in learning across year groups and helps children feel prepared for the next stage of their education.
Parents are invited in during open afternoons to review learning, twice a year for parents consultations and then wil receive an end of year report in July each year.
We are committed to transparency and continuous improvement. Parents can expect clear communication about learning priorities, targeted interventions, and the strategies used to help children succeed. If you would like to discuss your child’s progress or how we support learning at Giles Junior, please speak with your child’s class teacher or contact the school office.
End of Key Stage 2 Results 2026
At Giles Junior School, we are proud of our pupils’ achievements and the effort, determination and resilience they demonstrate throughout their learning. Our 2026 results show particular strengths and improvement in mathematics, alongside clear priorities for further development in reading and writing.
We are committed to providing an ambitious education for every child. Our results reflect the achievements of a diverse cohort, including a substantially higher proportion of pupils with special educational needs and disabilities than is typical nationally. We celebrate academic attainment alongside the individual progress children make in communication, independence, confidence and readiness for secondary school.
How our results compare nationally
The following figures are taken from the September 2026 Inspection Data Summary Report and show provisional outcomes.
| Subject | Giles: expected standard or above | National | Giles: higher standard / greater depth | National |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Reading | 62% | 75% | 27% | 31% |
| Writing | 62% | 73% | 5% | 13% |
| Mathematics | 71% | 75% | 26% | 27% |
| Grammar, punctuation and spelling | 63% | 74% | 12% | 30% |
| Reading, writing and mathematics combined | 51% | 63% | 2% | 9% |
The combined measure represents pupils who achieved the relevant standard in all three subjects: reading, writing and mathematics.
Mathematics: a clear area of improvement
Mathematics was our strongest subject in 2026. Seventy-one per cent of pupils achieved the expected standard, increasing from 68% in 2025 and 65% in 2024.
The proportion achieving the higher standard rose from 7% in 2025 to 26% in 2026—close to the national figure of 27%. The IDSR identifies this as a statistically significant increase.
Mathematics progress was also classified as close to the national average. This means that, overall, pupils made progress broadly in line with children nationally who had similar starting points.
Reading and writing
In reading, 27% of pupils achieved the higher standard, which the IDSR classifies as close to the national average. Increasing the proportion reaching the expected standard remains a priority.
Writing outcomes were below national figures. Strengthening writing, alongside reading comprehension, vocabulary, spelling and grammar, remains central to our school improvement work.
Understanding our school context
Our Year 6 cohort had high levels of special educational need, recognised within the IDSR. Published attainment figures include eligible pupils who were working below the standard of the tests and were assessed through alternative arrangements.
These headline figures provide an important measure of attainment. Alongside them, we carefully evaluate each child’s progress from their starting points and the wider achievements that prepare them for their next stage of education.
We maintain high expectations for every pupil and use assessment to identify where additional teaching, support or challenge is needed.
We thank our pupils, staff and families for their hard work and continued partnership.
